Welcome to the Dowagiac Dogwood Fine Arts Festival, a non-profit arts and education organization. The Festival began in 1991 with one event and has grown into a 10-day multi arts and cultural event. The Festival utilizes venues across the city raging in size from 60 to 800 seats.
Our mission is to provide fine art experiences to all ages. Our artists and performers provide a family performance from stage and many share their talents with students in the schools and with adults in workshops and master classes.
The festival is supported by area businesses, foundations and families, and grants from state and federal organizations. Over 200 volunteers organize these unique events to share with you and your family. We hope you enjoy your visit to Dowagiac, it is a great place to live, work, play and stay.
The award was created to help inspire and recognize young adult writers. Emerging playwrights between the ages of 18-30, living or studying in Michigan and northern Indiana are eligible. These awards are sponsored by two fine arts organizations: The Beckwith Theatre and the Dogwood Fine Arts Festival.
Highlights include a total purse of $2250 ($1500 First Place, $1000 Second Place, and $250 Third Place); each finalist’s play will receive a staged reading by a local theatre company; and a stage reading of the First Place winning script will be the featured theatrical event during the week-long Dogwood Fine Arts Festival in May.
Submissions for the 2016 competition must be postmarked no later than February 1, 2016. Download an application here.

"I cannot conceive how any city can describe itself as major if it does not provide its citizens with experiences in the arts.” — James A. Michener
Dogwood trees that grace the gardens, parks, and woods throughout Cass County surround several of the sculptures. The Dogwood Festival, named for this gift of nature, strives to bring the beauty of the fine arts to the area, and its Visual Arts Committee has successfully brought together donors and sculptors to create a lasting display of beautiful artwork for the Dowagiac area.
